Despite the fact that my roommates didn't like this idea, i'm gonna post it.
We have been watching movies for a long time. At first the sound came from the television. Someone then realized if sound was placed all around the person watching, they would feel more "in" the scene--and we all witnessed the birth of surround sound.
So why not go ahead and try to stimulate more senses than just a person's hearing and sight? Perhaps movies of the future will include theaters and movies in which directors make big decisions about which smells will enter the room during certain scenes in a movie--adding greatly to the overall experience. This could even be extended to exploit the sense of touch--with a little creativity.
By stimulating more senses, the viewer would feel as though they were more a part of the movie--and wasnt that the idea behind surround sound from the beginning?
Maybe this is just the next logical step....
